Yo Yo it's Mac Daddy and it has been some time since I have had a chance to scratch some new verbage on this Blog. I have been highly engaged and have had little available bandwidth. You know, having to assist Paris labor through the challenging stretch behind bars and taxing effort to persuade my g/f Lindsey to stay off the drugs. My girls just can't seem to keep it together and stay out of the media.
My summer vacation has been wonderful. I just heart SI! <---not Sports Illustrated. We have been spending time cruising the island and catching rays in the backyard by the pool. I hang with my posse each morning at Stars Cafe while I chow down on my blueberry muffin, sip my iced coffee and help sling hash with the cooks in the back. Then I have to jet over to pick up the Post to check out Page Six. For lunch or dinner, I usually go hang out at Sunset Beach to get some good eats and fill my belly on the scrumptious eye candy floating around the bar and beach. The alternative is to go over to On Shore Restaurant at the Dering Harbor Inn and have delectable "assortiment de grande nourriture". "Il est magnifique!" Last weekend a pack of cool cats were able came over for some burgers, dogs and pasta salad. We had margaritas, beer and wine to wash everything down. It was a sweet time. It was awesome to see little baby Julia, Rich&Allison, Matt&Liz, Keil&Nora, and Second Cousin Greg. Mama tried to help Greg meet the ladies at Sunset Beach, but she was off her game after downing over 6 planters punches. Greg even had one on the reel, but Mama created a big wake and caused Greg to lose his catch on the line during the late evening.
On July 3rd, a bunch of us slipped over to On Shore for a sunset filled dinner. In between bites the kids played by the fountain and down by the harbor. Everyone seemed to enjoy the meal and the spectacular view. Thanks everyone for tuning into my blog. Look for my July 4th birthday posting very soon.
Peace

** JULY 4, 2007 ~ McRae's First Birthday **
Happy Birthday, Baby Boy!!
On this day, July 4th, one year ago, I woke up at about 8 in the morning with butterflies in my stomach. I knew that this was the day we had all been waiting for since your Momma first found out you were in her tummy: after months and months of waiting and wondering, you were going to come out of her tummy and we were FINALLY going to get to meet you!
I had spent the previous day in the hospital with your Mom and Dad, Mumu, GrandDad and Aunt Lindsey, and we were all very anxious and excited for you to be born... but by 10pm that evening, the doctor said you weren't quite ready to come out and we should all try to get some sleep -- ESPECIALLY your Momma, who had been working so hard all day to help you get out of her tummy!!
The SECOND I woke up the next morning, July 4th, 2006, I checked my phone and saw a text message from your Dad that said you were expected to arrive that morning. Hooray! So I twisted my hair into what your Momma calls the "Nicky means business" hairdo and practically flew back over to the hopsital.
Your Mom had been so strong all night long (it takes a lot of hard work to get a baby out of your tummy!!) and was extremely tired, but very excited to finally meet you and continued to labor with a big smile on her face as you got closer and closer to coming out of her tummy.
I got to be in the room with your Momma and Dad, Aunt Lindsey, Mumu and GrandDad until just before you were ready to come out of Momma's tummy, and it was such an exciting time! Everyone was calm and relaxed and just so happy to know you were going to finally join us.
At about 10:45am, the doctor said it was almost time and asked me and Aunt Lindsey and GrandDad to wait down the hall. Aunt Lindesy and I sat on the sofa in the waiting room, but your GrandDad was too excited to sit and wait! He walked all along the hallway, back and forth and up and down, keeping a close eye on the door so he would know the MINUTE you had been born.
He came into the waiting room with a proud smile on his face to let me and Aunt Lindsey know that you had been born. We got to go into the room and see you, and OH - you were the cutest little guy, amazed by your new surroundings and looking, wide-eyed, all around. I have never seen anything so precious before in my life, and I will never forget that moment.
Your Dad was SO proud of you!! And your Momma was SO in love with you!!
I started madly taking pictures of you, and then decided it would be my mission to follow you from your Mom's room to the nursery, never taking my eyes off of you, while they wieghed and measured you and put a little name bracelet on your wrist, to make SURE you didn't get "switched" with another baby. NOTHING was going to happen to you, not under Aunt Nicky's watch (because, don't forget, I had my "Nicky Means Business" hairstyle, and boy did I mean business!)
Your proud Papa came to look at you, and I went to visit your Momma, who could finally get a little sleep knowing you were safe and all was well.
I was very annoyed with the people sharing the room with her, because they had already had their baby the day before and had tons of guests who were all talking noisily in the room. I thought this was extremely inconsiderate, because your poor Momma had just been through 2 days of labor and was exhausted and needed some peace and quiet. I glared over at them to try to make a point, and they quieted down a little - but not much.
But you know what? Your Mom was so tired that she didn't even notice the noise. She just fell into a nice deep sleep, and this made me happy.
Your Momma thinks this is a very funny memory of mine, but it is the thing that I remember most about you those first few weeks after you were bron: believe it or not (and Momma does not), you did not want to cry. Your little lips would quiver and you would get a look on your face that said "oh gosh, i'm really trying to be a brave boy here and I don't want to cry, but I am really hungry and I think I might HAVE to."
I swear, I believe that whenever it was possible, you tried NOT to cry, and were practically apologetic when you did. It is the cutest thing I have ever seen. Because, by the way, it's okay for babies to cry -- you don't have words or any other way to tell us that you need something! But you really did try not to cry, as much as possible.
Anyway, Baby Boy, look at how big you have grown since that day! I continue to be so overjoyed that you are here with us and it is such an honor to be a part of your life. I cannot wait to see how you grow in the years to come. I send you all of my love and very best wishes for a Happy First Birthday!!
xxoo Aunt Nicky
